Sea Freight Basics

Understanding CBM (Cubic Meters)

Unlike air freight which focuses on weight, LCL sea freight is charged primarily by volume. The unit of measurement is the Cubic Meter (CBM).

This means a light but bulky box (like a sofa) will cost more than a small but heavy box (like tiles) if the sofa takes up more CBM.

How to calculate CBM

Length (m) x Width (m) x Height (m) = Total CBM

Example: A box that is 1m x 1m x 1m = 1 CBM.

Volume Visualizer

Small Washing Machine ~ 0.35 CBM
Standard Pallet (1.2m high) ~ 1.50 CBM
Range Rover Sport ~ 14.0 CBM
20ft Container Capacity ~ 33.0 CBM

Sea Freight FAQ

How long does shipping take?

Transit time on the water is typically 3-4 weeks, but with customs clearance and handling, we advise planning for 4-6 weeks total door-to-door.

Can I pack personal items in my car?

For RORO shipping, vehicles must be completely empty. For containerized shipping, you can load personal effects inside the vehicle, but they must be declared.

Do you provide packing materials?

We can provide pallets, shrink wrap, and crates at our depot for an additional fee. We recommend palletizing loose boxes for safety.
